It has been a little more than two months since national automotive brand Proton launched the updated 2024 PROTON X50 and despite some initial scepticism from certain quarters, the model has proven its worth once again. The company recently announced that in July, during its first full month of sales, the B-segment premium SUV achieved a remarkable sales figure of 2,585 units. This was its best performance in 2024, vaulting the model back to the head of its class and solidifying its status as Malaysia’s favourite compact SUV.

Given its dominance of the domestic SUV market since its launch, the rebound may not come as a surprise to many, but few are aware that since its launch at the height of the pandemic on 27 October 2020, nearly 120,000 units of the PROTON X50 have been sold, making it the fastest selling SUV in Malaysian automotive history. Despite stiff competition from newer rivals launched by Japanese and Chinese brands, the model secured a 10.3% market share in the SUV segment from January to June 2024, easily outpacing other vehicles in the same market segment and highlighting the trust customers place in Proton's offerings.
